The Microsoft Experience is coming to Best Buy

The Microsoft Experience is coming to Best Buy

Microsoft will take over large sections of 600 Best Buy locations in an effort to better reach consumers.

According to Microsoft, the new locations will be anywhere between 1,500 square feet and 2,220 square feet of solid Microsoft products. Though the areas will be branded as a Windows Store, the company plans to sell its complete line of consumer oriented products at these locations including things like the Xbox consoles, Windows Phone devices and Windows devices themselves.

“Well, unlike a lot of store-within-a-store concepts, this will actually be a department-level takeover within Best Buy stores. And they will be massive in size, up to 2,200 square feet in some locations. The other unique thing about the Windows Store is the people. There will be an additional 1,200 staff on hand to provide a great customer experience, whether it’s choosing the right PC or showing consumers how to stream Xbox music through their Surface. Finally, the online experience should be fantastic. We’ll have a full online Windows Store experience that will mirror the in-store look-and-feel and offer a full range of Microsoft products, even those from other places in the Best Buy store” –Chris Capossela, Chief Marketing Offer for Microsoft

Microsoft says Best Buy and Future Shop buyers in the United States and Canada should begin seeing the store areas later this month. The roll out will continue through early September.

The move should help to boost the company’s consumer products visibility. Right now, it only has 45 Microsoft Stores scattered across the world, making it likely that many users would be interested in getting hands-on time with Microsoft’s products, simply don’t live close enough to a store to do so.

The Competitors: Xbox One Gets Played by Sony in Used Gaming Tutorial

Mere hours after underpricing Microsoft’s Xbox One console, Sony is twisting the knife and ensuring that users at least grasp its marketing message of being the best entertainment console for gamers.

In the video -which we’ve included above, a PlayStation executive is seen looking directly at the camera, informing the user that “this is how users share games”. Shortly after a full screen indicates that what follows is only step one of the process.

The first executive in the commercial then hands his physical copy of a PlayStation 4 game to a counterpart also standing in front of the camera. The first gentleman then turns back towards the camera and says “Thanks”.

The video is, for all intents and purposes is a direct jab at Microsoft for the way its Xbox One gaming console will handle sharing games. According to the company, games purchased for the Xbox One can be traded into only “participating” dealers for cash and other games. That’s a far cry from the process users have to deal with today, needing only hand over the disc for sharing and trading.

Xbox One Smart Match matchmaking and Reputation System Highlighted

Xbox One Smart Match matchmaking and Reputation System Highlighted

Microsoft is detailing more about the Xbox One’s new Smart Match system that among other things, allows users to queue up for online gaming matchups before they’ve finished the one their already in and give users a reputation score based on their online behavior.

The post which featured Microsoft’s Michael Dunn, a Program Manager for Xbox LIVE, really gets into the nitty gritty of how the new system will work on the Xbox One. Using Smart Match’s request system allows game developers to use cloud processing to find more gamers, making the system more reliable if we’re allowed to read between the lines for a bit.

Smart Match seems to also put a reputation system at the heart of matchmaking for the new console. This new system will take input from the gamers users have already played online with and assign them a color based on a stop light. Green players are fine, and according to Microsoft make up the majority of users on the Xbox LIVE service however, yellow and red players will be sent “many different alerts to the user reminding [them of] how their social gaming conduct is affecting lots of other gamers”.

Though a long read, if online multiplayer gaming is incredibly important to you, than it’s definitely something you’ll want to read. Also, now you can finally nail that guy for messaging you beginning for free Xbox LIVE codes every day.

From The Social: If the Price is Right

Just after the announcement of the Xbox One, you could smell that hope was in the air. Users wouldn’t have to worry about trekking to the store to purchase the latest games because, the Xbox One would deliver digital titles on Day One. Game developers wouldn’t need to look at the return on investment forecasts before they included support for the Kinect sensor.

Then, Monday happened and now enConnected Social member Mark Richey, asks the right question, what if the price was right?

Microsoft Unviels New Xbox 360

Microsoft Unviels New Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 will once again get a visual refresh, this time to match the looks and two-tone color of its successor.

The new Xbox 360 which is perfectly flat and drops much of the vertical lines of its predecessor in favor blending in with the other equipment it’s placed near, is now on sale. The console will come in the same two configurations as the Xbox 360S does today, a 4GB Console with just a wireless controller for $199.99, a 250GB version of the device with onboard storage and $299 for a 4GB console with a Kinect sensor included.

For those keeping score, that’s actually the same price points that the Xbox 360S ships at today. So far the company has not detailed any plans to drop the price of the 360S in order to make room for this console, instead it seems they’ve opted to let it’s stock sell out at the same price as it is today.

While Microsoft says the new Xbox 360 is available around the world, a quick check on Amazon didn’t show results for the new console just yet. We’ll keep an eye on it, and update you when it has.

Xbox One, Coming This November for $499

Xbox One, Coming This November for $499

Microsoft is finally letting users know how much they’ll have to put away in order to pick up the Xbox One, the Xbox 360′s successor $499.99.

It’s that pricing, and only that pricing that users will see when they head to purchase an Xbox One on store shelves this fall, as there will only be one version of the console. For that price users will get the new upgraded Kinect sensor, the Xbox One itself, and the new Xbox One controller. Microsoft also says that it will make special downloadable content for a few of the launch titles available inside the box as well.

Over the weekend, Microsoft announced that users would be able to share games and trade them in to what it called “participating retailers”. Games will be available digitally or on a disc on the same day so that users won’t have to trek to a store to pre-order titles. Everyone in in family will have access to the same game library, in addition to a user being able to go to any Xbox connected to the internet and play their games. Users will also be able to gift games to users on their friends list when they’re done with them.

The console itself will include Wi-Fi support and will also allow users to connect their smartphones and tablets to the device using a technology called Wi-Fi direct. The Xbox One is already available for pre-order with online retailers like Amazon.
