Nokia starts delivering Windows Phone 7.8

You’ve watched Windows Phone 8 users resize their Live Tiles. You’ve looked on in envy as the bright blue and white Windows Phone logo flashed during boots of devices like the Nokia Lumia 920 and Windows Phone 8X. Soon, you lucky Lumia owner, you too will be able to get in on the action.

Starting today, Nokia has begun pushing the latest update to the Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800, and 900 owners. Although all owners will originally get their hands on the update, in typical Windows Phone fashion users will be prompted by their device to download the update in stages during the month of February.

In addition to the newly customizable Start Screen, users can also expect lock screen updating, wider language support, Internet sharing, Bluetooth sharing, and updates to Nokia exclusive apps like Play To and City Lens. It’s also worth noting that in true Windows Phone, and really anything that isn’t iPhone fashion, when you receive this update is entirely dependent on whether your carrier has approved the update. You can check your eligibility for the update manually from your Windows Phone’s “Phone Update”  screen in it’s settings.

We completely understand that checking in at enConnected proper might not be everyone’s idea of a good time. As such, we’re redoubling our efforts to bring you the Microsoft entertainment news you need wherever you want it, particularly for those of you using Facebook.

Starting today, you’ll notice us hanging around enConnected on Facebook a little more. We’ll be there asking questions, taking polls, and doing videos of Travis dancing uncontrollably.  We’ll also be there doing the occasional giveaway too, so be sure to hit that “Like” button. Oh, and about that video, Travis has since regained his sanity. We think.

NBC’s 30 Rock on Sale in the Xbox Video Store

NBC’s 30 Rock on Sale in the Xbox Video Store

Sure, the gang that captured our hearts and minds with tales of the behind the scenes antics that go into running a weekly variety show didn’t sound like a real barn burner at first, but we’ve grown version fond of 30 Rock these past seven seasons. Now that it’s on sale in the Xbox Video Store, we suspect untold thousands will do the same.

Until February 5, the Alec Baldwin and Tina Faye driven comedy is available for just $14.99 a season. That’s untold hours of Jenna banter, and even more untold hours of wondering what kind of hash the person who’s writing Tracy Morgan’s lines must be on.

Nokia to hold press event during Mobile World Congress

Nokia to hold press event during Mobile World Congress

Seems like just yesterday Nokia was talking up the Nokia PureView 808 during last year’s Mobile World Congress. If we remember correctly, that same tree didn’t bear fruit for the Windows Phone faithful as Nokia was in the middle of their year long transition to Windows Phone. Maybe they’ll have more luck during Nokia’s press event at this year’s event on February 25th.

Unfortunately, there are currently no solid rumors on what to expect from the House of Espoo, at least none that we feel are worthy of spreading. While we won’t be able to attend, you can bet your bottom dollar we’ll be following along remotely to bring you any major announcements from the event.

Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week: Fighter-Palooza

At this point, we’ve all had just about enough of first-person shooters -ok, we’re lying. No we’re not tired of them, but we are seriously excited about getting Street Fighter on the cheap as part of Xbox LIVE’s Deal of the Week.

Until February 4th, Xbox LIVE Gold users can pick up Street Fighter X Tekken Additional Character Pack for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), Street Fighter X Tekken SF/TK Swap Costume Complete Pack for 720 Microsoft Points ($9), Street Fighter X Tekken Alternate Costume Complete Pack for 1080 Microsoft Points ($13.50), Street Fighter X Tekken Char Swap Costume Complete Packfor 240 Microsoft Points ($3), and Street Fighter X Tekken Char Alternate Costume Complete Pack for 360 Microsoft Points ($4.50).

Additionally, fans of the Megaman franchise can pick up Megaman 9 and Megaman 10 for 640 Microsoft Points ($8). Now, please excuse us while get back to Halo 4. What did you expect? We’re about as good at fighting games the Department of Homeland Security is at finding weapons of mass destruction.

Deals: One year of Xbox LIVE Gold for $35

Deals: One year of Xbox LIVE Gold for $35

Thanks to the alert eyes of Uscripted360 users, access to dozens of premium Xbox entertainment applications like Netflix and online multiplayer can all be yours for less than what you paid the latest two rounds of downloadable content for Halo 4.

Those who don’t mind waiting for a paper card to appear can pick up a full year of Xbox LIVE Gold for $34.99 from Amazon, meanwhile those users who would prefer to simply get a code to use immediately will have to settle for the same full year of service for a slightly higher $34.99 (also at Amazon).  Oh, and the original cost of a year of Xbox LIVE Gold? $59.99.

Though we’ve asked, Amazon isn’t giving a date on when the promotion ends thus we suggest you click that “buy” link, now.

enConnected: Updated

enConnected: Updated

While I’m all for doing updates the old stealthy way, I am just as equally pleased when we ship an update that so impacts the way you use the site that we’ve got to tell you about it.

Late last night we shipped only our second update since unleashing enConnected 3. With it comes about a hundred small tweaks to the way we write and you enjoy the site, my favorite of which happens to be the new design of our homepage and content hubs. Seriously, the new homepage just screams “sophistication”.

You can checkout a list of the most important changes we made in our Changelog. Don’t hesitate to tell us what you think in the newly refreshed comments as well.

Some of you may have to refresh your browsers to get the full effect of the style sheet changes we also introduced in this update.
